iOS 17 Summary

Apple announced iOS 17 on June 6, 2023, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The new OS is available as a free update for all iPhone 8 and later models.

iOS 17 includes a number of new features, including:

  • Locked Down mode: This new mode is designed to help protect users from targeted attacks by state-sponsored actors. It locks down certain features of the iPhone, such as iMessage, FaceTime, and Safari, and makes it more difficult for attackers to gain access to the device's data.
  • Matter support: Matter is a new smart home connectivity standard that is being developed by a group of industry leaders, including Apple. iOS 17 will support Matter, which means that users will be able to control their smart home devices from their iPhones using a single app.
  • Interactive widgets: Widgets are now more interactive on iOS 17. For example, users can now swipe on a widget to see more information, or tap on a widget to open the related app.
  • Mood tracking and journaling: iOS 17 includes a new Health app feature that allows users to track their mood and journal about their experiences. This feature can help users identify patterns in their moods and understand what triggers them.
  • Shared AirTags and AirPods improvements: iOS 17 includes a number of improvements to Shared AirTags and AirPods. For example, users can now see the location of Shared AirTags on their Find My app, even if they are not connected to the AirTag owner's iCloud account.
  • Other new features: iOS 17 also includes a number of other new features, such as:
    • The ability to edit sent messages
    • The ability to schedule emails
    • The ability to live stream events from your iPhone
    • The ability to use your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac

Overall, iOS 17 is a major update that includes a number of new features that will make iPhones even more useful and versatile.
